The Oster Rice Cooker range
Choosing an Oster Rice Cooker is a relatively straight forward task as compared to some other brands as they just have a half a dozen or so different models to select from. In fact with Oster rice cookers there are really only two different decisions you have to make, cup size and lid type.
First off is rice cooker size. There are only two options available with Oster rice cookers, 5 cup and 10 cup. If you are looking for a smaller cooker you will need to consider a different brand.
Secondly is lid type. There is the choice between glass lids and locking air tight lids. Personally, I always opt for the locking lids as I find that they keep the rice fresher for longer when using the keep warm function. Oster and indeed most manufacturers say 12 hours, but I have often used rice that is a day old, 24 hours, without any noticeable deterioration in the quality of the rice. This would not be for everyone of course.
Other than that, all Oster rice cookers are the automatic type, no Fuzzy logic cookers from Oster yet. They come with non stick pans, steamer trays and keep warm functions.
My personal choice if I was buying an Oster rice cooker would be the 4717 model. It is a 10 cup model, which is a good size for our family of four and has the lockable air tight lid. The 5 cup equivalent is the 4715 model.
Other models in the Oster range are the 4704, 4705 and 4707 which are the 5 and 10 cup models with the previously mentioned glass lids.
